The seven chimes are made of four inch diameter heavy-duty aluminium tube.  The chimes can be struck anywhere along the tube to create a very low and powerful sound which is felt in the body as well as heard. These notes sustain long after the fundamental sound has ceased.

You will notice how the sound changes as the tubes get longer with the longest chime producing a sound so deep you can actually feel it - making a truly multi-sensory experience!  All our contrabass chimes are tuned to the pentatonic scale in c major.  Pentatonic is a scale of five notes which allows players to create and invent harmonious sounds without struggling with 'wrong' notes or dissonant chords.

The chimes can be bought individually, however for maximum sound effect the chimes should be kept together in an arcing or a horseshoe shaped arrangement to enable the player to experience a ‘surround sound’ effect.  This arrangement works well for players using a wheelchair as they can access all of the chimes easily and create a resonance they can feel.

Contrabass chimes are supplied with two durable mallets, made to withstand the outdoor elements, that are attached to the instrument with coated steel cables.
